About Chuck Bidwell
Charles E. Bidwell—known to colleagues and clients as “Chuck”. Chuck has built a remarkable career around one central idea: metrics matter. His fascination with measurement began early, at age 10, when he tracked advertising ROI for his first business. That foundational insight—that data- driven decisions lead to better business outcomes—has guided his work ever since.
Chuck’s analytical approach matured quickly. As Director of Management Information Systems at Target—then a small regional retailer with just three stores—he played a key role in shaping how the company used data to drive growth. At Target, he developed large-scale financial models to turn strategic visions into executable operational plans. He pioneered daily and weekly data tools meaningful to operational management expanding beyond formal GAAP compliant accounting data, created forecasting systems to manage store staffing, and applied early AI-style analysis to consumer behavior, including projects on credit card fraud, store layout optimization, and store location planning.
His financial modeling expertise supported everything from department-level planning and acquisition ROI analysis to long-range, five-year models illustrating the strategic tradeoffs presented to the board. Chuck’s work helped lay the foundation for Target’s rise into a national Powerhouse.
After Target, Chuck put his metric-based philosophy to work in the entrepreneurial arena. He acquired, turned around, and successfully sold five companies, including Dexon, Red Owl Stores, Health Fitness Corporation, and J. W. Hulme Co. Each turnaround was guided by his disciplined use of analytics—tempered by real-world experience and a growing appreciation for the non-metric side of business: mission, vision, trust, and customer belief.
Since 2018, Chuck has served as President of Bidwell Management Resources, where he provides consulting services to large and mid-sized companies seeking to improve decision- making and reorganize their Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) functions. He partners closely with senior leadership to ensure their FP&A teams deliver timely, actionable insights that support operational success.
Known for his practical expertise, deep financial knowledge, and ability to translate data into clear strategic action, Chuck takes on select projects—where he can make a measurable and lasting impact.
