Of equal importance, but often dismissed, is the actual operational integration of the new company into the personality of the acquiring company.  Frequently, acquisitions fail due to poor management of the blending of the new operation with the existing operation.  The most successful M&A experience happens when the operational integration is planned and managed from the beginning.  This requires the use of M&A experienced management in both the pre purchase analysis phase and the post purchase implementation phase.
